Q. What is MBA- Biotechnology  or MBA-Biotech or MBA-BT ?

 Ans.  MBA in Biotechnology is a specialized MBA. This course was first started in Australia , a major player in the field of Biotechnology. The purpose of starting this course was to bridge the gap between the industry requirements and the conventional technical knowledge-based workers by producing the managers who can very well understand the market needs and communicate well with the scientists and other technicians to produce the need-based products.  Biotechnology sector is showing growth and it is expected that this trend will continue in the future. There are a lot of Biotech and Pharmacy companies in India that have entered in foreign markets as well. This  will create lot many jobs in this field. Managerial manpower , with specialization in BT or Biotechnology , will be needed to play a managerial role and to manage effective and efficient commercial utilization of the BT research outcomes.

 

Q. Is MBA-Biotechnology available in India ?

 Ans. Yes , this course is available in India. Kudos to the University of Pune for starting this unique course. University of Pune , India’s one of the best University , has started MBA-BT i.e MBA in Biotechnology from academic year 2002-2003. It is two-year full-time course. It lays equal emphasis on Management and Biotechnology . University of Pune is the first University/ Institute to start this program in whole of Asia.

Q. What is the admission procedure for MBA-BT at Pune University?

 Ans. The total intake capacity at the Department of  Management Sciences, University of Pune is 60. Admission to this course is through a national level management entrance exam called ATMA. It is then followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview. The admissions are made strictly on the basis of overall merit i.e Written test (ATMA) score + GD score + PI score (Combined Score).

 

 

Q. What is eligibility criteria for MBA-BT at Pune University?

 Ans. Only science stream(Biotechnology, Microbiology, Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Pharmacy, Engineering etc.)graduates or those in their final year of graduation are eligible for MBA-BT. 50% in graduation for open category candidates is a must and 45% for reserve category candidates (only from Maharashtra state) is a must.
